Pew Reports on Teen Internet Use. http://www.muninetguide.com/articles/Recently-Released-79.php
ERIC Abstract:This report addresses the effect of technology on today's children, advancing three central arguments: (1) Our children face a technological frontier of irreversible changes in human biology and the world's ecology; (2) Children's lives are increasingly filled with screen time rather than real time with nature, caring adults, the arts, and hands-on work and play; (3)There is scant evidence of long-term benefits and growing indications of harm from a high-tech life style and education. A new definition of technology literacy is proposed: The mature capacity to participate creatively, critically, and responsibly in making technological choices that serve democracy, ecological sustainability, and a just society. Ten principles for developing the new technology literacy, and a six-point agenda for action by parents and citizens are presented with the goal of reclaiming childhood for children. The appendix contains an exhaustive list of resources for technology awareness, arranged by subject.
